BOLTON-based IT Company, Imerja, has won a three-year contract to overhaul Barnsley College's IT infrastructure in a deal worth £750,000.
Based at Paragon Business Park in Horwich, Imerja is a specialist provider of IT infrastructure, IT security and business communications services to organisations in both the public and commercial sectors.
The project will see the college's network upgraded with a 10Gb campus-wide local area network (LAN) installed, improving storage and providing the college's 8,000 students and 650 staff with better facilities.
The work on upgrading the system will take place in four phases between Christmas and Easter to minimise downtime and disruption.
Ian Jackson, managing director of Imerja, said: "Technology has become an integral part of education, not only in terms of dedicated courses but also in its integration into all aspects of the curriculum.
"In conjunction with the ongoing redevelopment of the campus sites, the college has invested in its network and server infrastructure to ensure that students and staff can access it at all times without interruption or limitations."
