Employers across Greater Manchester will be offered incentives to recruit apprentices that are over and above the UK government's national offer.
The Greater Manchester ‘top-ups' will be made available through the Greater Manchester Commitment, which aims to tackle youth unemployment across the region.
The scheme is coordinated by New Economy on behalf of the Association of Greater Manchester Authorities (AGMA) and will support employers and young unemployed people across Greater Manchester.
The UK wide offer is being delivered by NAS (National Apprenticeship Service) who will present 40,000 incentives of £1,500 per head to SME employers who choose to recruit 16-24 year old apprentices.
Greater Manchester's scheme will offer an additional £750 per head, payable directly to a limited number of employers who have signed up to the Greater Manchester Commitment by taking on an unemployed young person.
The scheme aims to benefit employers and NEET (not in employment, education or training) young people through a series of ‘Apprenticeship Trials' which will develop individuals' employment skills and support them in demonstrating capability in a work setting.
