Providing opportunities for young people

In response to demands from the private sector, education is now doing much more to prepare young people better for the world of work.  New approaches such as the Diploma Programme offer a routeway for young people which retains a committment to high quality acadmic learning but which builds in a strong vocational component to their studies.

In order for this work to suceed, a wide range of work placements are required for young people within Bolton.  These range from visits and short term work placements to longer activities where a young person may be coming into a business for 2 or 3 days per week over the course of a few months.

In addition to providing an invaluable learning opportunity for the young person, some businesses are beginning to use these approaches as part of their own workforce planning - growing their own skilled staff for the future.
